Editorial: Cinco de Mayo

My ancestry is a combination of Irish and Italian.  As such I am aware every year of the St Patrick's Day holiday and Columbus Day.   There is nothing inconsistent with the celebration of either of those holidays within the presence of the US Flag.  One would expect to see the US Flag in any parade in celebration of either holiday.  So, why the fuss over four young men wearing stars and stripes on their T-shirts on Cinco de Mayo?  If there is anything inconsistent with the presence of the US Flag at a Cinco de Mayo celebration in this country, the celebrations must end.   Americans bear no loyalty to any other nation's flag over their own US Flag.   The US Flag must always fly above any state flag and never be subordinated to the flag of another nation inside the boundaries of this country.   There was logically a US Flag flying above that high school that was the subject of administrators sending those four young men home on Wednesday, wasn't there?  If not, why not?
