Happy Birthday

All who love this country should give pause today to celebrate our nation's 234th birthday.   When you do, consider what our founders pledged, what they personally sacrificed, what they risked in order to form a nation of goodness on this earth.

This is a great experiment.  Are the citizens of a nation capable of governing themselves?   They thought so.   I continue to think so.   But we will not continue to govern ourselves if we continue our willingness to sacrifice our brithright for the sake of promises that sound noble but that are intended to enslave.   Alexis de Tocqueville said. "But one also finds in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to want to bring the strong down to their level, and which reduces men to preferring equality in servitude to inequality in freedom".  That which has made this country great is our view of property and individual rights.  Today we have a president and a dominant class in the Congress who is intent on retribution against those who succeed, a president, a majority leader and a speaker intent on defining an equality of outcome that can only be equality in servitude and not equality in freedom.

Reflect upon this and enjoy your holiday.
