Keep Your Eye on the Ball
October is a month for baseball playoffs and a bit of sound advice to the hitters is to "keep your eye on the ball." The same is true for political candidates as we approach Election Day.
Just as Roy Halladay will attempt to deceive you by changing speeds or throwing a breaking pitch, Democrats will attempt to take your mind off of the horror of the past four years of the Pelosi and Reid Congress and pretend the issue is about what someone said or did when they were 15 years old. That isn't important.
Look at the ideology of the candidate. If you don't know how they will vote find out, but don't just trust them when they say they are a fiscally conservative incumbent. Incumbents have records. How did your representative vote on Healthcare? How did he or she vote on Banking Regulations? Did your representative sit idly by as the Obama Administration extorted the secured creditors of General Motors and Chrysler and subordinated their notes to the United Auto Workers? How do you feel about the federal government ownership of two former auto giants? What do you think about federal bailouts altogether?
Look at the voting record of your incumbent representative and Senator and ask whether you would have wanted them to vote that way or whether you would have preferred they had voted differently. Overwhelmingly the population spoke in many a Town Hall Meeting in 2009 and overwhelmingly they were ignored by Democrats who possessed a greater affection for Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid than for their own constituents.
Look then at their challengers. Look to their history and project how this individual will likely vote. Don't worry about whether the challenger did something foolish when in their teens. People are supposed to do foolish things in their teens. Look more closely at what they did once they were mature adults. Look at their ideology. We won a Cold War over the Soviets who wanted to dominate the world with their Communist ideology. Hopefully we did not invest all that blood, time, energy and money to fight an ideology that our nation would then turn around and adopt itself. Look at your parents' legacies and imagine what it was that caused them to be willing to go to war to protect this nation. Whether it was World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War or something later, ask yourself whether Obama and his protégés offer a legacy they would be proud if you adopted.
My father and mother were a part of the Greatest Generation. They sacrificed during WWII to provide a world in which Americans could be independent, self-reliant and above all free. My mother is still with us and she will be voting in the coming election at the age of 91. I thank God for her and all who came with her and before her. I will not allow my legacy to be something that would shame her or my deceased father. I will be voting Republican in the coming election because they are the party of liberty.
Voting Record is the way. I know a candidate now in a local election who will not answer my post on their FB page or my e-mail. I am a conservative, but it's Republicans that have me irritated. They believe that someone will vote R, just because the other alternative is worse. To that I say, Oh really! How dare you be so smug to think such a thing. When McCain came up for election, a friend brought the Keating Five to my attention. It's guys and gals like this that give Conservatism a bad name. We need to be careful of Third Way politicians.

I completely agree. This is the beauty of the Internet and its many options. Those who follow politics and have a knowledge of voting records can expose both Democrats and Republicans who say one thing at home and do another thing in Washington DC.
With regard to John McCain, it was never the Keating Five that caused me to not support him, it was McCain-Feingold, Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the Gang of 14. All were attempts at compromise with the most egregious being McCain-Feingold that was clearly unconstitutional and ultimately was struck down but not before doing considerable damage that is better described as protecting incumbents. As proud as I am of the State of Arizona and their governor for standing up to the federal government on SB1070, I am disappointed in Republican voters for turning down JD Hayworth in favor of Senator McCain. I would also like the Senator to explain to us why he fought so hard to retain a Senate seat but acted like milquetoast when running for the Presidency?
