Election Day in America

I listened last night as pundits described Obamacare as low in its impact on this election.   I was amused.  Their logic was that polls had this prioritized third behind jobs and the economy.

Consider the following:  A man is on a business trip when vandals break into his home.   They murder his wife, rape his daughter and burn down his house to conceal the evidence.

Now certainly if I were this man my first and second priority would be the murder of my wife and the rape of my daughter but does this render the arson of my home as inconsequential?    I think not.    Every time I think of the manner in which Obamacare passed either the House or the Senate I want to take a swing at someone that allowed that to happen or worse, that furthered that cause!

Yes, I am among those that pundits call angry.   I've got reason to be angry along with millions of others who attended Town Hall Meetings with me or Tea Party Rallies.    We are ready to deal a blow to Democrats for their wanton disregard of the concerns of the American people and what their employers asked, begged them to not do.   In the fine tradition of the United States of America, we will do this at the ballot box.

    Sir or Madam,

I came to this website to see what the Tea Party is about and the first thing I read was this blog. Can you please tell me what your train of logic is pointing to? Obamacare/healthcare 3rd priority? Murder & Rape would be your concern over Obamacare? Government should put murder and rape as #1 and #2 on our national agenda?

Your "consider this" paragraph is quite sad. Why would you even want to consider such an awful thing? Do you really keep violent murder and rape at the top of your mind on a daily basis?

Why would someone living one of the wealthiest and most prosperous nations in the world be walking around considering such an awful thing?

Is this really what you want our government to focus on? Is this what you want children to hear? Do you really have so much fear and anxiety?

I came to learn about your party and I'm afraid I don't feel very well now.

Where in what I wrote in this editorial did you see a "Love it or leave it" statement?  Although I have pointed out many times that among our nation's strengths is that we don't fence people in and that we are free at any time to move to any part of the world that we believe provides the utopia we seek (if they will have us).   I have never outright told people who disagreed with me or with the causes I support to leave this country if they don't love it.   I would only wish that they would.

98% of world countries do not fence in their populace either. Fencing out and the criteria for such is of greater concern. Other immigration issues aside, what is the position of the Tea Party on, specifically, the US Immigration Lottery?

I don't know the source of your statement that 98% of the world does not fence their citizens in but we both certainly know that a major reason for whatever the high percentage this might be is one Ronald Wilson Reagan and his having brought down the walls in Europe.  Is anyone who desires able to emmigrate from China?  We know they can't leave Cuba or North Korea.  I am doubtful that the percentage is as high as you state but we do know it is higher than it was during the Cold War.

Speaking for myself alone I do not envisage the fencing out of persons wishing to immigrate to any country as a greater concern.  I regard it as no concern at all because to remain sovereign, nations must have control over their borders.  This country certainly has immigration policies that need exploration and perhaps some modification and improvement but I would certainly favor a wall to separate our country from all others for immigration, national security and law enforcement reasons.

I have no idea what you refer to when you discuss the Immigration Lottery.

There are 195 countries in the world. Only 5 of those are self-described communist dictatorships with exit restrictions. Hence, 98%.

I'm always amazed so few Americans are aware of this program:

                http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_5073.html

This program shuts the door on applicants from Mexico, Canada, England and others with whom we share similar cultural values. It's an open invitation to immigration from a number of disparate cultures, some of whom are hostile to US interests. Peruse the list and honestly ask yourself how many will assimilate and how many will drag along their cultural baggage and simply ghettoize upon arrival, or worse. 50/50? By virtue of their names being "picked out of a hat" they make a mockery of those "standing in line", sometimes for years. Let's expose US immigration policy for what it really is. Knee-jerk compliance with a UN mandated multiculturalism agenda. The West bearing the burden, as it's surely our fault the lazy-ass third-world has remained such for millenia, and only as a consequence of our oppression. Personally, I'd approve of a moratorium on entry visas granted to young men native to Yemen, Saudi Arabia and a few other select locations. National security? Even a child learns, after being stung once, it's best not to allow bees to set up camp in a corner of your room. Sorry, shouldn't be profiling bees, as the majority are benign.

Okay.   Thanks for identifying the basis of your calculation.  I would have perhaps turned to the numbers of people who live within those countries and of course, China has more than a billion, more than 16%.  This is why I asked.   It does not mean my method is any better than yours is.  Yours is certainly acceptable.

I completely agree with your position on immigration policy.   As stated in my previous response, we certainly have immigration laws that need adjustment.  What I did not realize was they needed as much adjustment as you have stated.  I believe in extending invitations to those who can both contribute and assimilate into our culture.  Sadly, from my perspective this would not include any people whose primary allegiance is to a specific religious creed or who wish to impose that creed on this country.  I expect people who come here to arrive with an understanding that this country offers them something they did not have where they lived before and who wish to partake of the opportunities that are here.  They should arrive understanding our laws believe in equal treatment of everyone regardless of religion and that while we respect religious heritages we will not allow any one religion to dominate our culture.  No, I am not saying that Christianity does not dominate because the values of our laws are dominated by Christian ethics.  What I am saying is that neither Catholicism nor Protestantism dominates.  Arriving immigrants will not be expected to become Episcopalians but they also will not be required to religious at all.   The only thing they cannot be is parochial in their own religious applications and must not put this country in the position where they demand sharia law or any other theocratically based religion inconsistent with our Constitution.

Further, I completely agree that no person of Middle Eastern, muslim decent should be allowed even an entry visa until this war on terror has ended.

Dave, don't mistake anything I have stated to imply that Christianity is inconsistent with our Constitution because it is not.   This remains a Christian nation and hopefully always will be.    Our common ground is on the issue of immigration and in that the government may not require anyone to be religious.   This is not any kind of an admission that Christianity is "inconsistent" with the Constitution.

So... let me get this straight.

    1. The recession is like "murder" and "rape," and the Democrats are the "intruders" responsible for the recession/unemployment? The bubble burst in 2007/2008, before the democrats were even in power.

    2. Health care reform that, like every other civilized country, ensures people don't literally die of poverty, is like ARSON? Whether you agree with the details of the plan or not, this is pretty ridiculous hyperbole.

You want to take a SWING at people? Wow, Tea Party, keep picking winners.

It seems only right-wing sites display a "Your comment is awaiting moderation" tag. Goebbels would be proud. I've lived in two countries with national healthcare systems, England and Canada, and despite the hysterical furor and opposition to such in the US, fueled by big-business interests,I've not met a single person, ever, in either of those countries, dissatisfied with the level of care. Rumors of such systems bankrupting or providing a lesser quality of service are just that. Navel-gazing America is unable to comprehend it's the US military in firm control of bankrupting this country by waging perpetual warfare and insisting upon budget increases at every available opportunity. I live next to Ft. Bliss and should anyone care to argue that point...bring it on. Roman history seems lost upon the USA ( sorry, for those of you in Gopher Bite, NC., they lived a long time ago in Europe ) and we're certainly doomed to repeat it. Already accomplished by the USSR.
The Tea Party appeals to the most base, localized and uneducated segment of the population and it appears their numbers are growing. Meanwhile, the US remains in political stasis for the next two years. Just the way the sheep-all are told to like it. They can't reset the clock to 1880 so they choose to freeze it at every opportunity.

A system designed for the benefit of the elite. We sheep only ever have one of two choices and they've convinced the majority there is no better way. Therein lies the lunacy.
