Comity in the Congress

The fight is on.   In the House of Representatives we have the men and women who are closest to the public.  Here are the people who we elect every two years and who more closely represent the mood of America.   On the other side we have the Senate, men and women elected for six year terms who fancy themselves as made of the upper crust, a class above the public and also a class above the House.

It is in the Senate that we in the Tea Party have work to do.  I am concerned about many Republicans there.  Let's start with the newly formed Gang of 6.  On the very same day that the House was making history with its passage of Cut, Cap and Balance we had the Gang of 6 that includes three republicans countering this vote with news of a pending compromise with the President.  This is a declaration all too similar to prior agreements this body has made to ensure comity in the Senate.  These gentleman after all would not want to soil their hands with the hard labor that took place today in the House.  Their agreement that Obama now hails as a step in the right direction solves nothing.  The effort required to create the legislation that would mirror these details would take months to prepare and have the Congressional Budget Office score.  Tax reform requires weeks to work through and the last thing this nation should want is a hastily prepared solution of this nature that would eventually compare to the hastily passed Obamacare.  Let's not compound the problem by adding insult to injury.

Their proposal is another example of the promises of the past.  Tax increases now and tax cuts later.  What pure unmitigated gall to produce something like this at all let alone on a day that the news should be promoting legislation that actually passed in the House.  This begs the question, who are these republicans and whose side are they on?  They aren't on my side as a member of the Tea Party intent on seeing republicans force this administration to control their bowel movements and stop crapping all over the American people.

As reported by Wikipedia, this Gang of Six includes:

2011 on national debt

During 2011, the Gang of Six is led by Democrat Mark Warner and Republican Saxby Chambliss and includes four members of the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.[4]

Democrats

  • Mark Warner (Virginia)
  • Dick Durbin (Illinois)
  • Kent Conrad (North Dakota)

Republicans

  • Saxby Chambliss (Georgia)
  • Mike Crapo (Idaho)
  • Tom Coburn (Oklahoma) Left Gang of Six and later returned

In July 2011, the Gang of Six proposed a solution to the US debt ceiling crisis. The compromise would cut the deficit by USD $3.7 trillion over ten years and was praised by President Obama.[7] [8]

This Gang of Six is unwelcome news when combined with the earlier proposed compromise by Senator McConnell who appears willing to abdicate the responsibility of the Congress to the President as a political move when we need an economic answer.

My point, we must continue to work on the Senate to add more Rand Pauls and to challenge milquetoast Senators in primaries.  They sell us down the river in the interest of comity.  Too many Senators proclaim conservatism in their reelection bids and then resort to bipartisan support for liberal ideas when in the Senate.  It is their hope that over a six year period their constituents will forget who they are and what they do.  We cannot allow this to continue to happen.

Thus we must count on the peoples' House and there we can trust many new members but most specially, Allen West from Florida.   Allen called Debbie Wasserman Schultz out on Tuesday and he described her to a T.

Rep. Allen West tore into a fellow South Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz with a personal e-mail that decried her as the "most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member of the US House of Representatives."

Whole Story

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have men and women like Allen West in the Senate too?
