Bill O'Reilly

Count me among the 29% of Republicans that is not enamored with Bill O'Reilly.   I enjoy his show but I enjoy it more when Laura Ingraham guest hosts because I find him weak in multiple areas.

First and foremost, his approach.  He is egotistical, pompous and arrogant.  He states his opinion as though it is fact.  He thinks it, therefore it must be so.   He dismisses other points of view as though to tell us all that he says so, and thus it has been decided.   Witness his prior and recent delegation of those capable or incapable of winning in coming elections.  We won't know until November 2012 whether he is right on his coming election forecasts but in 2008 he and Dick Morris elaborated on show after show that no one but Condoleezza Rice was capable of beating Hillary Clinton as if it were fact and the Oracle had spoken.

Secondly, he speaks over his guests.  He defends himself by saying he won't allow spin but how can we tell it is spin when O'Reilly won't even allow answers?  He will sometimes not allow a guest to finish a sentence, to make a salient point or worse, to beat him to a point he wants to make himself to demonstrate his own intelligence.  I believe O'Reilly to be narcissistic.

Third:  O'Reilly demonstrates that a masters degree from Harvard isn't worth what some people claim it to be worth.  He is tremendously weak in Economics and Business Finance as evidenced by his lack of understanding of commodity pricing and the influences of international markets on those prices.   He is also weak in the sciences as evidenced by his earlier acceptance of the theory of man-made Global Warming.  He was all too quick to believe that those who dismissed the excitement over Global Warming cared not for the environment.   Either you believed in the hysteria surrounding Global Warming or you favored polluting the environment.  Nonsense!

Finally, I find him rude to his female guests because he addresses them by only their last names.   Were he to put a Miss or a Mrs., a Dr. or some other title in front of the last name, I would have no objection but when he addresses Margaret Hoover as "Hoover" I believe he is disrespectful, discourteous and ill-mannered.

I do enjoy his show.  I think he has a great format.  He usually has quality guests and at times he even brings in guests who if nothing else demonstrate how ignorant those are who espouse hatred and violence or substitute name-calling for reasoned discourse.  But his labeling of those who will not appear on his show as "afraid" is another demonstration of this arrogance, especially when those persons do present themselves to other interviewers on other shows who are just as tough but who also let their guests complete a sentence.
