Michele Bachmann

Bob Schieffer interviewed Michele Bachmann on Sunday's Face the Nation.  Representative Bachmann began a bit clumsily by moving to talking points rather than answering the first question regarding corporate tax rates.  My biggest concern was that she was beginning to be redundant in her responses and she seemed intent on moving certain facts about her background that were irrelevant to the question of tax rates on corporations.  Then Michele got her wings.  Schieffer asked a question regarding how she could actually "guarantee" that gas prices under a President Bachmann could be brought under $2 / gallon again and would she use price controls.  Michele hit that one out of the park.

Price Controls, never.  It was clear to her and it should have been clear to everyone listening that the reason prices are currently so high is that the current administration was strangling the energy companies of America.  The US is rich in coal, natural gas and oil and there is no reason other than the current administrations "off limits" declaration on those resources that prevent those prices from moving beneath $2 right now.  Her "all of the above" energy policy is exactly what would enable this to happen but Schieffer was obvious by the tone of his questions that he does not understand how free markets work.  Given that gasoline prices have risen from $1.79 to more than $3.75 since the onset of his administration it is clear that $1.79 is possible again because these prices are reactions to artificial stimuli in the energy market as introduced by Obama's refusal to allow drilling off the coast, in the Gulf of Mexico and in ANWR.  The stranglehold of the Department of the Interior and the EPA on exploration in Middle America and the penalties threatened on coal companies are all examples of why Americans are currently paying an artificial penalty to heat their homes and run their automobiles.

Schieffer's questions on Michele Bachmann's statement that God was speaking to the Obama Administration through the weather were under-handed and ridiculous.  She was speaking in obvious metaphors and she said so.  Yet Schieffer pushed her to get her to say that she really believed God was speaking to Obama through hurricanes and other serious weather.  No one knows when or how God speaks to individuals.  Her answer was excellent and she was able to respond to Schieffer without looking foolish from either the perspective of believers or nonbelievers.  I believe the question told us more about the bigoted nature of Bob Schieffer than it did about Michele Bachmann.

In my point of view, Michele Bachmann is still a candidate worth looking at for the Republican nomination and our next President.
